Tech Tips > Setup Introduction
Going fast in a straight line is predominantly determined by:
  • the right tyres to get the power to the ground
  • good batteries
  • a good motor

There are other factors but the above are the primary considerations.

However, we are not a drag racing club. Our cars need to go around corners and to do that quickly the "setup" of the car is important.

This section is about car setup and providing resources that you might find useful for both beginners and advanced racers.

Resources Available

General

There is a huge amount of setup information available on the Internet. The challenge is sifting the good information from the uninformed opinion. Google or your favourite search engine can be your best friend when looking to troubleshoot an issue.

There is an entire industry surrounding RC cars and a large number of companies that make their living from selling their products to enthusiasts. These companies sometimes have setup tips on their sites.

You Tube

Go to www.youtube.com and search for "solder deans plug" for an example of a useful video tutorial.

Forums

Forums are an excellent source of information. Refer to our links section for several excellent forums (although the links provided are to the For Sale sections each forum also has sections for technical discussions).

Car Manufacturers

Each car manufacturer will usually have a section of their web site which shows "setup sheets" for different track conditions. Our links section contains links to a number of manufacturers.

Books

Examples of books on setup:
Title
Description
Publisher
Radio Control Performance Plus
67 How To's with 300 colour photos. Excellent beginner to intermediate book
XXX Main Chassis Setup Guide
Excellent intermediate to advanced book.
RC Store offers a wide range of RC books and magazines and a number of these can be electronically downloaded
Our Members
There is a significant body of information and experience contained within our members heads so come down to a club meeting and ask questions. We're always happy to talk with fellow enthusiasts! Of course you need to pick your time - don't ask that detailed question while the person is trying to get their car ready for the next race!
